Create your first wallet
Creating a wallet in Ownbit takes under a minute. The one step that matters most is backing up your mnemonic (seed phrase): it is the only thing that can restore your funds, and Ownbit's servers never hold a copy.
Create a personal wallet
Open Ownbit and tap Get Started
On the Add wallet screen you can create a personal wallet, a MultiSig wallet, or restore an existing one from a mnemonic.
Choose how to protect it
Pick Hot Wallet (keys stored and signing on this device — simple and quick) or Cold Wallet (keys stay on a permanently offline phone). Cold Wallet is greyed out while the phone is online.
Choose the mnemonic length
Select 12 or 24 words. Both are standard BIP39 mnemonics; 24 words carries more entropy.
Back up the mnemonic
Write the words down in order and store them offline. Confirm the backup to finish.
Back up your mnemonic now. If the phone is lost and you don't have the mnemonic, the assets cannot be recovered. With the mnemonic you can restore the wallet at any time.
Where is my seed phrase stored?
Your mnemonic and seed are stored encrypted on your own device and are never uploaded to Ownbit's servers. You can even generate the seed offline with an independent tool and then import it, so the origin of the key stays entirely in your hands. Because the key never leaves your device, keeping a safe offline backup of the words is essential.
How do I restore a wallet?
On the Add wallet screen tap Restore Wallet and enter your mnemonic. Ownbit follows the BIP32/39/44 standards, so a standard seed derives the same addresses in Ownbit as in other mainstream wallets. See Import & export a seed for details.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose 12 or 24 words?
Both are secure standard BIP39 mnemonics. 24 words carries more entropy and is often preferred for high-value, long-term storage; 12 words is simpler to back up. Either can be restored in Ownbit or any BIP39-compatible wallet.
Do Ownbit's servers keep a copy of my seed phrase?
No. The seed is stored encrypted on your device only and is never uploaded to any server. If you lose it and your device, the funds cannot be recovered by anyone, including Ownbit.
Can I use my Ownbit seed in another wallet?
Yes for standard wallets — Ownbit uses BIP32/39/44, so a standard mnemonic is portable to most mainstream wallets. MultiSig wallets require the MultiSig recovery process; see Recover assets.
